Music to the Ears

Why do we play [loud] music at FLOWGA? Some may argue beat-bumping music can be distracting, disruptive, and can take away from the intentions of creating a quiet mind. 

The truth is, much like yoga, music can affect our body’s frequencies and energy. 

Notice how we react differently to different types of music - EDM may make us want to dance, lo-fi may help us concentrate better, or Pop that makes us want to sing.  We even resonate with “sad songs” when we are feeling down to match our emotions. 

We often measure and connect our health and our feelings to brain and heart frequencies.  Sound frequencies, measured in hertz (Hz), impact the way we feel. Research has shown different types of frequencies can garner different emotions - for example, a meditative track, usually measured around 432Hz, is associated with relaxation, which helps to improve sleep, while a pop track in the 500-600Hz range might increase heart rate and disposition.

When we’re exposed to frequencies in our environment, our bodies naturally try to match or align with it.  You know how when you meet someone who shares the same energy as you? As if you’re “vibin’”, this is what music does to you. It vibes with you!

At FLOWGA, while we play a typical type of music to partner with our flows, we use music to awaken and draw memories, emotions, and energy to uplift your practice. 

Research has also shown that music may increase serotonin and dopamine to regulate our nervous system.

Our goal is to give you the best hour of your day at our studio and to do so, we don’t take our music lightly as every class is taught with and to music, where it is a partner to the instructor, but a background mood setter. 

We want you to feel the joy that comes with a familiar track, the power that comes with a deep bass, and the relaxation that comes with our savasana songs. We curate our classes to music so that you can vibe to the beat, vibe with the room, and most of all, vibe with the best version of yourself.
